Kesher is a proud recipient of the Jewish Day School Enhancement Grant distributed by the Greater Miami Jewish Federation (GMJF) / Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE) Day School Committee. The Day School Enhancement Grants are school specific and focus on areas of need and growth identified by the individual schools.
The proposed program for which Kesher received the grant, is a writing program developed to “break down” the writing process for the special education environment. It will allow the teachers to individualize writing instruction to the stages of writing based on the present level of performance, of each individual student. The program is taught with specific skill sets in mind, ever-evolving into higher level skills. The instruction and skills are paired with rubrics for assessments, pairing teaching and learning, with an “end-in-mind” format.
This writing program and the professional development provided to the teachers will better enable our school to have an aligned writing instruction format/method. As a school service serving a special education population with a diverse student population, this program will best support teachers in meeting students on their appropriate academic level in terms of their writing skills. This will result in a truly individualized writing instruction.
Kesher has been a GMJF funded agency since its inception in 1995 and is very thankful to the GMJF and CAJE for their ongoing support of our school and children.
